Tax Season Scams

It’s almost that time of year again – TAX Season! Tax season is almost upon us and cybercriminals are crafting and already circulating their phishing emails and smishing scams.

Taxes can be a frustrating and cybercriminals know that. They carefully word their scams to trigger you into taking an action and doing so quickly. Be on the lookout for emails claiming to be the IRS, too good to be true deals from companies to do your taxes, text messages about taxes, etc.

TIPS:

• Always be cautious when dealing with your tax documents. Don’t just send them to anyone and have them password protected.
• Think before you click!
• Understand how you are supposed to get notified about taxes and keep that in mind when receiving messages and emails.
