TSA PreCheck Phishing Scam
Cybercriminals are sending out phishing emails about renewing or enrolling in TSA PreCheck
Attention Travelers especially TSA PreCheck users - Cybercriminals are sending out phishing emails to encourage people to enroll or renew.
TSA PreCheck is an easy way to travel allowing users to skip long lines and allowing them to get through security with their shoes, jackets, etc on. It is a US airport screening system that many people use. Cybercriminals know that it is popular and used by many so they have taken advantage of this topic and made it their next phishing campaign.
In the email that they send out to people, they will include a link to a fake TSA PreCheck website for people to renew or enroll in the program. The website has everyone pay a fee and fill in their personal information. If you pay this fee it goes straight to the cybercriminals and you will not be TSA PreCheck certified.
TIPS:
- Be cautious of unexpected emails.
- TSA will never send you a link to pay in an email. They have you pay in person.
- Go to the actual TSA PreCheck website instead of clicking links from an email.
- Always be wary if a website makes you pay a fee right away.
- Make sure you hover over links to see where they actually are taking you.
- Remember this scam is just targeting TSA PreCheck but cybercriminals can use this type of scam for many different topics.
