Latest Netflix Scam

Cybercriminals are using Netflix in their latest scam targeting current and potential customers.

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services across the globe. Since it is the world’s largest streaming platform, it is also used by many cybercriminals as the subject of their phishing emails. Most of the time they are targeting current Netflix subscribers or potential customers.

In the latest scams, cybercriminals are tricking people into thinking something is wrong with their billing information for current customers and they are also sending fake emails out to potential customers advertising a deal for new accounts. In both of these emails, the cybercriminals make it look like the email is coming from Netflix and they include links that take the person to a fake lookalike Netflix page. On this fake webpage, they ask the person to confirm their personal and payment information for current customers to fix their billing problem and ask potential customers to enter in personal and payment information to get the deal they are advertising. In both situations, if the person enters their information, it goes straight to the cybercriminals.

Tips:

  • If you get a notification or email you weren't expecting about an error with your account, do not click on the links in. Go to a well trusted browser and go to the website that way.
  • Always think before you click and never click on a link or open an attachment from an email you weren’t expecting. Cybercriminals do a great job of making their emails/webpages look like the actual company they are trying to portray.
  • Netflix isn’t the only company or topic cybercriminals are using for these types of scams. They have spoofed other streaming services such as Disney+ and Spotify. Remember that if the deal seems too good to be true than it probably is. Always remember you can go to your web browser and look up the company to see their deals that way.
