Too Good To Be True Travel Offer Scams

Whether it be hotel, airlines, cruises, excursions, or car rental companies – cybercriminals learn ways to take advantages of travelers. Most phishing scams impersonate well known companies to try to trick people into sending money or their personal information.

Many of these phishing emails can include a deal that is too good to be true! It could include urgency wording. For example, you only have 1 hour to claim this deal before it goes away and you pay full price. Many of these emails will have links that will redirect you to a fake website that looks real. These websites will usually ask you to fill out login information and user credentials.

TIPS:

  • Never click on a link from an unexpected email.
  • Hover over links to see where they are actually going to.
  • Be cautious of any offers that are sent to you. Always go to the legitimate website in a trusted browser instead of clicking on a link. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
  • A real travel company won’t ask you for personal information through email.
