Fake Phone Number Scams

There are 8.5 billion searches on Google a day! People use Google to search a company’s information all the time. In the latest scam, cybercriminals are using Google search results and tampering with company phone numbers.

If a person searches a company that cybercriminals have manipulated the number, and they call the fake phone number they could get tricked into sending money. The scammers will convince you that something is wrong with your account or you are late on a payment and need to send over money. They might use wording to show they are more of a support person and can help you with your account. Some cybercriminals will even ask for your login information to look into your account further. If you give them access to your account and to your payment information, cybercriminals now can steal money!

TIPS:

  • Always make sure you are on a company’s official website.
  • Make sure you report any fake Google listings.
  • Check to make sure phone numbers on google, match those on the official website before you call it.
