AI Celebrity Scam
AI has been an amazing tool for businesses to use. It can generate videos, images, voices, and much more. Like any popular tool, cybercriminals are using AI to their advantage and are creating a slew of phishing and misinformation campaigns. One tactic they have recently used is impersonating celebrities. Cybercriminals are doing this to spread information and trick you into sending them money.
In the most recent scam, cybercriminals are impersonating Elon Musk. They are tricking people by using AI to create a fake video of him. Along with the video, a QR code is included. The cybercriminals want you to scan the QR code and deposit your money into the account. These scams will use wording that is very persuasive and encourage you to deposit money now, so you get a bigger return on investments later.
TIPS:
- Always be cautious when you are asked to fill in personal account information or financial information online. Make sure to only use trusted websites.
- If something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is and it is probably a scam.
- Remember to not believe everything you see on social media. Anyone can be impersonated with AI.
