YouTube Scam

Cybercriminals have created a new phishing scam tricking YouTube creators into sharing their login credentials with them.

Cybercriminals have created a new phishing scam tricking YouTube creators into sharing their login credentials with them. In this scam, Cybercriminals use AI to create a fake video of YouTube’s CEO. In the video and email, the CEO is sharing that they have made changes to the income policy and all creators need to accept these changes. The phishing email uses words that make the receiver feel like they need to act on this urgently because they state they only have 7 days to accept.

Once the viewer watches the video, they are prompted to click the link to accept the terms. When they go to the link it leads the viewer to a fake webpage that is a YouTube login page. Any login information shared through this fake webpage goes straight to the cybercriminals. Once cybercriminals have your login information they can access your account and post more scams on there to trick your viewers.

TIPS:

  • Never click on links from unexpected emails. Make sure to hover over links to see where they actually are taking you.
  • Always verify! Login to your account using a safe browser to see if you have any notifications about income policy changes.
  • Be cautious when you read an email, see a message or watch a video with urgent wording. Cybercriminals want to scare you into doing in action for their own personal gain, in this case your login credentials.
