
QR Code Scam
Cybercriminals are sending a phishing scam to teachers and students in hopes they scan the QR code and enter their personal information.
Heads-up teachers and students, cybercriminals have crafted a new phishing scam targeting you! In the latest scam cybercriminals send out a phishing email that includes a QR code and wording to scan the code to update contact info, check your benefits and to make it easier to apply for opportunities.
When the user scans the QR code, they are taken to a Google Form page that asks for sensitive data. Unfortunately, this form is fake and any information that the user shares will be sent straight to cybercriminals. Cybercriminals can use your personal information to access accounts, steal your identity, and steal your money.
TIPS:
- Never click on links or scan codes from an unexpected email.
- Remember QR codes can be made by cybercriminals to trick you into downloading malware or sharing your sensitive data with them.
- This scam can target anyone, not just teachers and students.
