Cheating Your Way Into Downloading Malware
Are you into video gaming? Looking for ways to cheat to the next level and trick others into thinking you got there on your own? Cybercriminals are doing the same thing and trying to trick you into clicking on their Cheat Lab links!
In the latest scam, cybercriminals are using the comment section in well-known video gaming sites to get visitors to click on the link that will download malware to their device. They make this “Cheat Lab” program look real and very enticing to gamers who want to cheat their way to the next level. Cybercriminals crafted this scam to look even more legit than some of their others. They have included an activation code and then even included an offer of getting the software for free if you share the program with your friends. Cybercriminals want you to send the link to all your friends so they can also download the malware and give cybercriminals access to their devices. Once malware is on the device the cybercriminals can access all personal sensitive information.
TIPS:
- This scam targets gamers but a similar scam could be out there targeting a different group. Always stay alert and be cautious!
- Make sure to only download software from a trusted source.
- If it sounds like a great deal most likely it is too good to be true!
- Remember anyone can comment even cybercriminals.
