Watch Out for Bank Phishing Scams

Technology has advanced bank’s communication process and has made banking more convenient for users. Whenever something is convenient for us it is also convenient for cybercriminals. Cybercriminals are impersonating banks in their phishing emails to try and trick you into sharing your personal information with them.

In the latest scam, cybercriminals are sending phishing emails that look like a legitimate email coming from your bank. This phishing email explains that your bank is enhancing their security measures that will affect your account. The email includes a link for more information about the security measures and what is changing. If you click on the link it takes you to a fake bank webpage where it asks you to log in with your bank credentials. If you fill out any login information, it will go straight to the cybercriminals who can then steal your money and change your bank information settings to lock you out.

Tips:

• Whenever given the opportunity to enable multi-factor authentication, use it! MFA requires you sending a code to your phone or email which gives you another layer of security.
• Think before you click! If you get an unexpected email with links or an open attachment, it’s most likely a phishing email.
• Verify that an email is legit by going to a trusted website.
