Smishing Delivery
Cybercriminals are sending out smishing delivery scams.
By now many people know what Smishing means. Smishing is a form of phishing that uses mobile phones as the attack platform. In the latest scam, cybercriminals send text message delivery notifications impersonating a delivery company. In their text message, they include a link to reschedule the delivery.
If you click on the link you are taken to a fake website that looks real. In order to reschedule the delivery, the website prompts you to include your personal and financial information. If you fill out this information, it goes straight in the hands of cybercriminals and you won’t be receiving any packages.
Tips:
- If you are expecting a delivery, to verify if this is a legit notification, contact the company by phone, email or an app. Never use the number included in the text message or a link.
- Always take a second to think. Are you expecting any packages? Did you sign up for text notifications?
- Never click or tap on a link from an email or text message that you weren’t expecting.
